Instructions for Blood shipping overseas

　どこまで参考になるか分からないが、私がFedExでドイツへと血液検体を発送する際には、L教授のウェブページに掲載されていた次の指示に従った。なお、この検査はL教授のご厚意により米国の周期性四肢麻痺の患者会PPAのメンバーにとても安価に提供されていたが、2014年9月現在は費用の問題で中止されている。以下の指示を記したウェブページも残っていないようだ。

Please pack the tubes in break-proof containers and forward them to the above mentioned address by express carrier immediately.

• 血液を採取してからなるべくすぐに、採血管を破損防止用の入れ物に入れて、宅配業者に依頼して発送してください。

The following information should be included in the service form of the express carrier:

• 宅配業者の伝票には、以下のように記入してください：

sample origin: human
sample material: non-infectious non hazardous human blood sample
sample purpose: genetic testing (research) in-vitro.
sample will be used in the lab and not administered to humans or animals.

Please note that according to the German postal instructions, the envelope should be marked “Human examination material".

• ドイツ郵便の指示に従い、封筒には“Human examination material"と記入するのを忘れないでください。

If asked for the value of the package contents, the value of the sample can be stated as $1 U.S. or 1 Euro.

• もしも荷物の内容物の価格について尋ねられたら、検体の価格として$1 U.S.または1 Euroと記せばいいでしょう。

Mentioning this symbolic value prevents potential difficulties by Customs.

• この象徴的な価格を記すことにより、税関でトラブルが起こる可能性を減らすことができます。

Except special cases, we cannot carry the costs of the sample shipment to us.

• 特別な場合を除き、私達受け取る側が、税関などから追加の費用を請求されても支払うことはできません。

実際には、当時FedExの伝票にはsample origin、sample purposeをどこに記入していいか分からず、物品名として英語のまま"non-infectious non hazardous human blood sample"だけを記入した。
